FARLAND CHANG has worked as a TV journalist for more than 20 years.
He has reported on top stories across Asia & North America, and covered world figures from Bill Clinton to Jackie Chan, and Frank Sinatra to Princess Diana.
Farland has met with and studied a host of famous newsmakers, including political leaders President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, China’s President Jiang Zemin, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger; business titans Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and Michael Bloomberg; media celebrities Oprah Winfrey, Larry King, Steven Spielberg & George Clooney; and sports stars Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Alex Rodriguez and Michael Chang.
For CNN International based in Hong Kong, Farland launched CNN’s Asia Business Morning as the program’s Anchor and Correspondent. He conducted live interviews with market strategists, industry analysts, entrepreneurs, and movers and shakers. Farland also produced and reported the popular weekly segments Asia Rising and Entrepreneurs Only, which focused on the best success stories in Asia.
For NBC News based in Los Angeles, Farland served as a Network Correspondent, filing stories from nearly all 50 states. And earlier, he reported for TV and radio news organizations in Seattle, Philadelphia, New York, Washington DC, Hawaii, Maryland and Guam.
PUBLIC SERVANT & CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST
In public service, Farland served as International Trade Coordinator & Press Secretary for the former Lieutenant Governor of Delaware, S.B. Woo. And later, served 80-20PAC, one of the most influential Asian American civil rights groups advancing equal opportunity & justice.
EDUCATOR
Farland earned his Bachelor’s degree in Government from Cornell University; Master’s from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism & Postgraduate Certificate in Radio, Film & TV from the University of Bristol in England. After serving as a Rotary Scholar and Goodwill Ambassador in the UK, Farland was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Since 1999, Farland has been invited to teach journalism & media studies from east to west. He lectures at top educational institutions, which include UCLA, Cornell, USC, Hong Kong University & Richard Ivey’s School of Business. Since 2014, Farland has been a Professor of Journalism & Communications at Shantou University in China. Farland is also often engaged as a speaker.
